The Flame Tetra is an often overlooked species, but it has many great qualities that make it a fantastic addition to any aquarium. These small, energetic fish are known for their impressive schooling behavior, making them a perfect choice for community tanks or biotope setups. When kept in large groups of 20 or more, their synchronized swimming creates a mesmerizing display.

Young Flame Tetras may seem plain, which is why they aren't always a top pick at aquarium shops. However, once they reach adulthood, their colors truly shine. They develop a striking rusty, fire-orange body with a light blue tint running along the dorsal fin and tail. Their front half is highlighted with a bright gold color, adding to their vibrant appearance.

Breeding Flame Tetras is similar to other tetra species and is relatively easy. Using a separate breeding tank with fine-leaved plants or a spawning mop helps the female scatter her eggs, which are then fertilized by the male. However, the parents do not protect the eggs or fry, so it's important to remove them after spawning to prevent them from eating the eggs.

In short, while Flame Tetras may seem modest as juveniles, they grow into stunning fish that bring color and liveliness to any aquarium.
