Jade Green Tiger Barb (Puntius tetrazona) – 3cm

Overview

The Jade Green Tiger Barb is a stunning color morph of the popular Tiger Barb, known for its energetic swimming and playful schooling behavior. Best kept in groups of six or more, these fish are active and fun to watch. However, they are not ideal for community tanks with slow-moving or long-finned species, as they can be fin nippers.

Native to Borneo, Malaysia, Sumatra, Thailand, and Cambodia, Tiger Barbs inhabit quiet, tree-lined creeks and tributaries with sandy bottoms, rocks, and thick vegetation. In the wild, they feed on insects, algae, invertebrates, and plant detritus, thriving in clear, well-oxygenated waters.

While they can be mildly aggressive, their fin-nipping tendencies are greatly reduced when kept in larger schools (6+ fish). In smaller groups or alone, they may harass tankmates. They are best suited for a species-specific setup or a tank with fast-moving companions like danios, platies, loaches, or catfish.

Tiger Barbs are omnivorous and thrive on a varied diet, including high-quality flakes, live, and frozen foods such as brine shrimp, bloodworms, and beef heart to maintain optimal health and coloration.
