Overview:
The Scissortail Rasbora (Rasbora trilineata) is a captivating fish with a silver body and distinct black and white markings on its tail, similar to the pattern seen on Rummy Nose Tetras. Their unique tail design and energetic nature make them a focal point in any aquarium. Female Scissortail Rasboras tend to be larger and rounder than the males.
Care Guidelines:
Caring for Scissortail Rasboras is relatively simple, provided they have stable water conditions. Like other rasboras and danios, they are peaceful and safe to keep with other peaceful fish, shrimp, snails, and live plants. While they won't harm adult shrimp, they may snack on shrimp fry. Scissortail Rasboras are schooling fish, so they thrive best in groups of 6-8 or more. Keeping them in larger groups brings out their most natural behaviors and enhances the males' coloration as they compete for the attention of females. In a well-maintained, densely planted tank, they may even breed, and you might spot some fry over time.
Diet & Feeding:
Scissortail Rasboras are omnivorous and not fussy eaters. They'll happily consume flakes or pellets, but to show their best colors and encourage breeding, it’s a good idea to offer a varied diet. This can include frozen or live meaty foods like brine shrimp, bloodworms, daphnia, or insect larvae. They also enjoy blanched vegetables such as lettuce, zucchini, or kale.
With their peaceful nature, high activity, and unique appearance, Scissortail Rasboras are a fantastic addition to any community tank!
